Shanxi province is set to significantly expand its effective investment during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), with 1,594 major projects planned and a total investment of 4.6 trillion yuan ($676.36 billion). These high-quality projects aim to support high-quality development and drive comprehensive transformation.
As part of its energy transition, Shanxi plans to add 100 million kilowatts of renewable energy capacity, including wind and solar, over this period. This year alone, the province has scheduled 30 million kilowatts of new wind and solar installations, of which 20 million kilowatts are expected to be connected to the grid.
To advance industrial upgrading, Shanxi will focus on cultivating and attracting new materials projects in sectors such as specialty steel, synthetic biology, and non-ferrous metals. It will also develop projects in intelligent coal machinery, rail transit, and information and communications, with the goal of establishing Shanxi as a key national base for energy raw materials, specialized equipment, and advanced manufacturing.
The province will also promote major infrastructure projects such as the Taiyuan-Suide High-Speed Railway, the third phase of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, and the Yellow River Guxian Water Conservancy Hub to better support the province's high-quality development.
Shanxi will further implement measures to encourage private investment, optimize government services, and regularly introduce projects to private capital, thereby driving private capital participation in urban renewal, technological innovation, and other major projects.
