Shanxi accelerates construction of ecological barrier in North China
Source: goshanxi.com.cn

Shanxi province plans to accelerate work on an ecological barrier in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and North China over the next five years, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, cutting pollution, expanding vegetation coverage, and fostering economic growth.

In the energy sector, Shanxi plans to expand clean energy projects and support the transition toward a greener, lower-carbon energy system.

It will develop green factories, green electricity parks, and zero-carbon zones, aiming to promote energy-saving and carbon-reduction efforts in industries such as steel, coking, cement, and smelting.

In transportation, the province aims for 99 percent of buses and 98 percent of taxis to run on clean energy. It will focus on replacing operational freight vehicles with electric and hydrogen-powered alternatives, creating zero-carbon freight corridors.

The province will seek to replace urban heat sources with clean energy, enhance energy-saving renovations of existing buildings and municipal facilities, and encourage the public to adopt water and electricity-saving practices in daily life.

Shanxi will also strengthen management of small watersheds to improve soil and water conservation in dry, sandy regions of the Yellow River Basin, including the Zhongtiao and Taihang mountain ranges.

The province will advance the "Three North" Shelter Forestation Project, step up construction on national parks, and continue building green spaces in urban and rural areas to improve the ecological environment for residents.
