Geographic Location

Syktyvkar is located in the northeastern part of the East European Plain in western Russia and on the left bank of the Sysola River, 1003 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

Introduction

Syktyvkar enjoys a mild continental climate, with long and cold winters. The historical extreme temperature is -46.6°C. Spring and autumn are long-lasting, with cool mornings, while summers are short and warm.

Founded in 1780, it is the capital of the Komi Republic and serves as the social and economic center of the republic, as well as an industrial center in northern Russia.

The city is rich in forest resources for primary forests covering most of the surrounding areas, such as spruce, pine and other coniferous forests, occasionally with aspen and birch. There are two major forest parks within the city: Michurinsky and Kirov.

There are more than 40 large enterprises, one-third of which are federal state-owned. Industries include logging, wood processing, papermaking, textiles, oil extraction, brewing, and dairy products. Wood processing and papermaking are the main pillar industries.
