The Animal Park opened in 1964 as an indigenous animal park. The Wild Animal Reserve has been part of it since 1995. All year round, the Animal Park offers fascinating insights into the lives of the around 1000 animals representing just under 200 species that live in the 10-hectare park.

The Animal Park is a sanctuary for many rare and threatened species from all around the world. It participates in a variety of conservation projects and is involved in over 25 international breeding programmes for the preservation of endangered species.

Many more zoological rarities and impressive animals live in the Animal Park, such as Somali wild ass, Prince Alfred’s deer, anoa and rare cat species. Further attractions include various species of marmosets, meerkats, greater flamingos and the South America enclosure.

In the unique tropical house, bird species from the region can fly freely across the entire hall. Depending on their habits, they populate the different layers and plant species. The tropical house is also home to pygmy hippopotami, capybaras, sloths, apes, reptiles, fish and leafcutter ants.

Young visitors in particular love the farmyard with its petting zoo, where they can have direct contact with pet animals.
